Disney World: A Brief History

Posted by disneyvisitorblog on Friday, 10 July 2015 in Disney World: A Brief History | 0 comments

We think of Disney World as the magical place that it is, with amazing fun and entertainment all around the park.  As the vision of Walt Disney, this amazing location in Orland has given the world a place to call one of the happiest locations on Earth with characters dancing around all through the park, lots of amazing rides to enjoy, and of course the shows and music that make up much of the feeling of a Disney movie can be experienced right in the park.  The resort is home to four theme parks and two water parks to give any family a ton of fun when they come and visit.

Unfortunately the mastermind behind all the fun that Disney is known for, Walt Disney, died before Disneyworld was ever opened.  With Walt passing away in December of 1966, his brother, Roy, chose to postpone his eventual retirement to oversee the construction of Disney World which eventually opened on October 1, 1971.

Currently Disney World is the most visited vacation resort in the world with over 52 million visitors each year and who can blame them with all the fun that is to be had at the resort and in the parks.  The property that is known as Walt Disney Resort is actually home to the four theme parks, two water parks, four golf courses, one camping resort, twenty-seven themed resort hotels and nine non-Disney hotels.  This makes for a vacation all in one awesome location for anyone who comes to Disney World to have a great time, but the purchase of the land for this amazing area was wrought with rumors when Disney worked to acquire the land.

The purchase of huge amounts of swampland in 1965 started many newspapers spurning rumors that Walt Disney was buying up land to build another theme park, this time in Florida.  Disney himself dispelled the rumors, even though they were true.  He kept buying up land and working toward having what he needed to create Disney World.  His planned announcement was set for November 15, 1965, but in a newspaper interview he allowed Emily Bavar to release the story in October and confirmed the story.  When he did make his formal announcement, he informed the world of his plan for the theme park and the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) which also went by the name Progress City.

Disney World became a reality in 1971 and has grown ever since adding feature after feature to the park.  Originally the park opened with Magic Kingdom, three hotels (including the campground) and two of the golf courses.  EPCOT made its first appearance in 1982 and neither Walt nor Roy ever saw the opening of this awesome feature of the park since Roy died in 1971.  The magic that is Disney World offers fun and excitement for kids of all ages, but it had its own history and men who had to be shrewd and careful businessmen in order to bring all this fun to world for our enjoyment.

The world’s most celebrated Norwegian sisters Anna and Elsa keep stealing the show despite the long queues and never-ending wait times ever since they graced the various Frozen- related occasions at the Parks of WDW (Walt Disney World) Resort in Florida. And when it comes to the Frozen Summer Fun Event, the celebration tends to get bigger and even more exciting. Truly, at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios it’s all about Frozen everywhere during summer. The month-long Event (from June through September) brings to life the magic of an imaginary kingdom, Arendelle right into the streets and stages of the Hollywood Studios Park like never before. Indeed from the moment you step inside you are under the grip of a Frozen Fever that tends to keep you in a festive mood forever.

If you are a fan of Anna and Elsa, a visit to the occasion is a must. Or if you are someone whose kids are still obsessed with the movie, the Event is the best option to quench the thirst. Packed with all new features and fresh additions including parades, stage shows and more, the Celebration tends to get bigger and more exciting every year. It’s is nice to know that the characters are getting more prominent at the Event, offer maximum interaction with the guests. Also it is great to have Elsa with her own special palace float and Olaf making his presence felt for most of the day now.

Among the main highlights, include the Frozen Royal Welcome. This one of a kind parade attraction is a unique opportunity to meet and sing with all the Frozen favorites, including Anna and Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf. The festive cavalcade is escorted by the Royal Arendelle Flag Corps. And along with the parade there also comes a flurry of skaters, skiers and ice cutters. It’s truly wonderful to watch as the whole atmosphere gets heated up with Anna leading the Procession and Elsa glides along, where guests as visitors from Arendelle all join in, singing the song “Let It Go!” The Parade welcomes the characters twice during the day.

Again the famous show – For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration is a unique theatrical delight. This amazing storytelling performance is a must visit attraction, where Royal Historians of Arendelle unfolds the story of their kingdom amidst delightful, sing-along moments, including innovative theatrical effects and special character appearances. Olaf on the other hand keeps the crowd cool throughout the day with his icy blast at Olaf’s Summer Cool Down attraction. The Frozen Firework Spectacular is again an inspiring display attraction that you should not miss at the party.

It’s to be noted that the entire Frozen Summer Fun Event is Free for all guests. No special tickets required. However, WDW (Walt Disney World) has a special Summer Fun Premium Package for guests who want to experience the occasion with more Frozen treats and more free time. In fact the special Package will make your trip easier with reserved locations, front row seating and last but not the least reservation for Frozen Fireworks viewing and Dessert Party.
